So often we are taught to do things a certain way… and we do it without question… and then something happens to cause us to question the system. Something like a dirt path beckoning off road.

Sometimes I’m lucky enough to find myself on a beautiful path when these thoughts come… on my bike. But the reality is that if I had not broken up with the idea that road bikes are only meant for the road, I would not have found myself here, on this gorgeous day, away from traffic, looking at a big blue sky and rippling water… on an adventure. I know this is not earth shattering, the idea not terribly contrary, but a reminder of why we have to challenge our daily routines.
That is why riding a bike is the best feeling on the planet… because you are free of the complications of society… with its roads and windshields.
I’m glad I broke up with that idea.
