"Shake Please" - Best smoothie ever!

Recovery Drinks are best consumed right after intense activity.  They provide your body with protein, vitamins and carbohydrates to kick start the rebuilding process. It is not only important for building stronger muscles but also helps to tackle that intense hunger that can show up instantaneously, causing poor meal choices and overeating.  And if you are like me… severe grumpiness!

“Shake Please” is my own personal concoction of frozen fruity recovery goodness.  It’s so good that even Mr. I-hate-recovery-drinks has developed a very special relationship with the blender.  Upon returning from a five hour training ride today, his only words were “Shake Please”.   Now aptly named, it’s time to share the recipe with you!

Combine in a blender:

1 cup lowfat or nonfat yogurt (plain or vanilla) – putting the yogurt on the bottom helps get the blending party started

1 cup frozen peaches

3/4 cup frozen blueberries

2 tbls Trader Darwin’s Very Green Powder

2 tbls Bob’s Red Mill Hemp Protein Powder

2 tbls Bob’s Red Mill Flaxseed Meal

2-3 tbls honey (depending on your sweet tooth)

1 cup orange juice or water

1.5 cup ice

Blend until smooth.  This recipe makes about 24 oz. of ice cold tasty treat, enough for two.  Vegans can substitute soft banana, soft tofu or applesauce for yogurt.  I like to play with the fruit and juice combination, don’t be afraid to get creative, you might be surprised at what flavors taste good together!

TIP:  Frozen berries and fruit can be very expensive but soooo tasty.  I watch for sales on ripe fresh fruit, just prep it and throw it in the freezer.
