Cane Creek Cycling Components, the world’s leading headset innovator, has translated unprecedented support from independent bicycle retailers into funding for advocacy at the National Bike Summit.

The Road to Washington initiative, launched in January, has raised more than $8,000, to be split between IMBA and the Bikes Belong Coalition. The total is not yet final and is set to grow, as it is based on a percentage of headset sales plus dealer sign-ups to Cane Creek’s Headset Rewards program.

“There has been a lot of positive energy from shops for this,” according to Chris Strout, director of domestic sales and customer service for Cane Creek. “Any optimism we’re feeling in the industry right now is tempered by the challenges bicycle advocacy faces in Congress, and dealers have expressed their appreciation at having another avenue to support these fantastic organizations.”

Strout presented checks to each organization at the National Bike Summit in Washington, DC, this week.

Bruno Maier, vice president of Bikes Belong, pointed out the benefits of the Cane Creek initiative. “Efforts such as this from Bikes Belong members like Cane Creek help us continue to put more people on bikes, more often,” he said. “It’s an easy way for dealers who may or may not already be members to increase their support.”

Cane Creek has also been a long-term IMBA sponsor. “We appreciate that Cane Creek, who has been a corporate sponsor for many years, is reaching out to retailers to help make this happen,” says Rich Cook, development director for IMBA. “We appreciate retailers taking advantage of this opportunity, whether or not they are already IMBA members.”

This is just one way that Cane Creek supports advocacy efforts nationwide. To learn more, follow Cane Creek on Facebook and visit
