Tool: Pedro’s Cable Puller
Job: To hold cables taut so that you can properly adjust your brakes and derailleurs.
Thumps Up: The Pedro’s Cable Puller is a very handy tool to have. It allows you to hold a cable taut with one hand, while your other hand is free to tighten pinch bolts. One feature it has (that some cable pullers don’t) is a thumb lock. This allows you to lock the tool in place so that you are applying consistent pressure to the cable as you tighten the bolt.
Thumbs Down: This tool can be annoying for left-handed mechanics. It works best when held in your left hand, leaving your right hand free to tighten pinch bolts. As a left-handed mechanic, I often feel it would be easier to use if the tool were a mirror image of itself.
Tool Tip: This Cable Puller also works well tightening zip-ties. It’s very useful when installing computer mounts and sensors.
Last Word: This is a very handy, yet inexpensive, tool that has a place in any mechanic’s tool box.
Info: Retails for $27.
