The 2012 Bicycle Leadership Conference marked two years since the day 40 bicycle industry companies offered up half of a million dollars in less than two hours. They did it to fund IMBA’s agressive plan to foster bicycle-friendly conservation policies on public lands across the United States — the Public Lands Initiative (PLI).
At the recent gathering in Monterey, CA, IMBA shared dozens of successes related to the work of the PLI. Below is a snapshot of the impact the PLI has seen in its first two years. View the full report and the list of 36 campaigns nationwide.
The PLI has protected or expanded at least 2,762 miles of trail for mountain bikers to enjoy.
As IMBA moves forward into the PLI’s third year, we need your help to keep the momentum going. To be successful, IMBA must continue building the resources that allow us to counter the large and well-organized groups that want to restrict bicycling on public lands.
To the original PLI sponsors, thank you! Your support helped IMBA and its affiliates begin to re-write mountain biking’s history on public lands.
If you didn’t get a chance to be a part of the original 40, but would like to help IMBA with this important work in the years ahead, it’s not too late to add your support. Please contact wendy [dot] kerr [at] imba [dot] com (Wendy Kerr) at anytime to contribute and be a part of trail history.
