Raleigh Midsummer Nights Cyclocross… in July?

30 0

Even though it is the second annual Raleigh Midsummer Nights Cross race in July… it still just doesn’t seem right. Maybe its because its JULY, its 90 degrees here in Colorado or maybe because we didn’t see it for ourselves year one.

No matter. The Raleigh Midsummer Nights Cross Race will proceed on July 24th during Lifeboat Events’ DealerCamp at Deer Valley Resorts’ Snow Park Basin in Park City, Utah. While exhibitors and attendees enjoy happy hour, the race will explode through the expo providing the evening’s entertainment.

And just to ensure that everyone is properly rewarded for the early-season, heart-thumping performance at 7700 ft. above sea level, Raleigh is offering up a purse of over $25,000 including two “contract with Raleigh” prizes for the top male and female elite finishers without a pro contract.

According to Cyclocross Magazine, last year 13 women traveled from around the country to compete for one of the richest paydays in cyclocross. Offering an equal payout and a potential pro contract, Raleigh is sure to attract an even greater women’s field this year.

Kathy Sherwin, a NoTubes Elite Women’s rider, put an impressive one minute hurt on the rest of the women’s field, taking last year’s win.  This was no doubt due to her masterful handling skills as shown in the video below.

Aside from the elite men and women, there will also be Cat 3&4 men and women, and a “Wheelers and Dealers” race for industry.

So, what could be more fun than racing cyclocross in July at 7700 ft., on a fresh course, with steep turns and loose descents for a pro contract with Raleigh and some cold hard cash? Hummm.  Not much.

We will be there.  Will you?
