Bikes Belong is utilizing Interbike 2012 to recognize and reward industry efforts that are making bicycling better. Its campaign, the Build More Than Bikes Challenge, invites show attendees to share personal stories and ideas around enriching their local bicycling communities.

“The Build More Than Bikes Challenge is a tribute to the tremendous efforts of suppliers, distributors, retailers, and individuals to make bicycling safer and stress-free,” said Tim Bock, senior marketing manager for Bikes Belong. “It doesn’t matter whether the action is big or small, it’s about giving back to bicycling. When we all give back, more people choose to bike, and when more people ride, more bicycles are sold. It’s a win-win for everyone.”

From the start of the show until 3 p.m. on Thursday, September 20, Bikes Belong will collect stories at its booth (L28) and display them on an oversized map of the United Sates. Three cash prizes of $1,000 will be awarded to the business or individuals who provide the best stories. Postcards to collect personal anecdotes will be available at the Bikes Belong booth, at the Top 100 Retailer Awards, the Industry breakfast and the Fuji Happy Hour (4 p.m., booth no. 11112) on Wednesday, Sept. 19, as well as at the Fashion Shows on September 19 and 20. The cash prizes will be awarded on Thursday at the Saris Happy Hour at 4 p.m. in booth no. 20055.

“This initiative is about sharing stories that inspire people to try new things in their communities,” continued Bock. “This industry is about so much more than manufacturing product. It is about the passion that drives it – whether your shop hosts a trailbuilding day or helps raise money for a local advocacy group. At the end of the day, we need more of that.”
