Meredith Miller sprinted ahead of Katerina Nash and National Champion Katie Compton to win the official opening of cyclocross season at Cross Vegas on Wednesday night.  Miller, who just tied the knot earlier this month, was in top form in her new race team Noosa Yogurt cycling kit. What a way to celebrate a honeymoon! The three elite women were neck-and-neck coming into the final section of the race on a grassy soccer field. Miller timed her sprint perfectly.

“I went into the sprint last,” Miller said. “I kept trying to pass Katie, and I almost took myself and her out. Being patient was the key because this grass takes it out of you. I waited to the very last minute to sprint.”

Nash finished second and Compton got third. Full results are here.

More than 50 women participated in the cyclocross race, now the fastest growing cycling sport in the U.S.
