Megan Hottman – Golden, CO
A South Dakota native, Megan attended earned a B.A. in Corporate Communications and her Juris Doctorate, both from Creighton University in Omaha, NE. In her final year of law school, in 2003, Megan discover bike racing and never looked back.
With the help of her husband as trainer and coach, 2005 Megan earned the prestigious best amateur jersey at the Nature Valley Grand Prix, one of her top career highlights. In 2006, she was invited to race for Trek-VW.
Also in 2006, Megan formed a small beginner women’s cycling team. It eventually grew to include a multisport team and co-ed club. All in all it included over 100 athletes in 10 different states. Megan began racing for this team herself in 2007, which also marked her first foray into track racing.
Megan continued to increased the size and strength of the women’s team, growing it to an elite women’s road team in 2009 and 2010. Directing the team while racing on it proved to be especially challenging while working full time as an associate for a law firm. After a solid run of 5 years, Megan decided to discontinue running the team at the end of 2010.
Racing for the professional women’s Primal-MapMyRide team in 2011, Megan faced several season marring injuries. Recovered and ready for action a fresh 2012 season lays ahead.
While honing her skills as a professional athlete, Megan joined a small firm in Boulder, CO. There, she gained valuable experience working on large consumer fraud mass actions, as well as individual personal injury cases. In early 2010, she opened Hottman Law Office, LLC (aka “TheCyclist-Lawyer.com”). In addition to representing her own clients, she also works as a consultant with several Colorado personal injury firms.
Megan continues to race and work to develop the women’s cycling community, as well as using her experience, paired with her career as a personal injury lawyer, to advise cyclists on best practices in the event of an accident.
