Teeter Power10 vs. Hydrow Rower: Which to Choose & Why?

Straight away, it’s easy to see that the Teeter Power10 rower is not your regular indoor rower. For one thing, you’re seated in an upright and comfy position with excellent postural support, very different from a traditional indoor rower like the Concept2 Rower.

Except for the popular recumbent cross-trainers like the Freestep LT3, Teeter has created a rower that gives users a complete full-body workout and combines it with the capability to work your aerobic system simultaneously; there aren’t many machines that can do that!! Not only that, but users can choose from 7 levels of resistance, which, unlike many of its competitors.

The Hydrow Rower is an elite rowing machine priced at the higher end, but users get much more than just a rower. Users can access the best online workouts on the market that expert coaches have designed. Membership provides customers with more than 3,000 on-demand training sessions, not to mention the Hytdrow is one of the coolest-looking rowers I’ve ever seen.

Let’s see how its stacks up against one of the powerhouse rowers on the market today, the Hydrow Rower.

Let’s get started!!

4.7

One of the best hybrid rowing machines on the market. With seven different levels of resistance, fully adjustable handles, and comfortable seating, this trainer is well worth the money. The handles set it apart from other brands and help to keep your back and neck in correct alignment when training.

The Teeter Power10 is a unique rowing machine and one that took me by surprise. To be honest, when I first reviewed the Teeter Power10, I wasn’t exactly sure if it was a rower at all. But as a professional coach, I can tell you that after using it, it’s one of the best workouts I’ve ever had on any rower.

The Teeter Power10 provides an excellent strength and conditioning workout and targets your aerobic system meaning you’re building muscle and burning fat simultaneously; now that’s a win-win. Not to mention you get 7 levels of resistance, allowing you to choose your workout intensity at the simple turn of a dial.

The Teeter Power10 is an ideal option for beginners and intermediates, and its ergonomic design makes it suitable for those recovering from injury. Older adults with mobility issues will also benefit significantly from the Teeter.

The most significant advantage, in my expert opinion, is the pushing and pulling motion, which targets muscles such as:

  • Back
  • Biceps and Triceps
  • Delts
  • Legs
  • Chest and
  • Abs

The great thing about the Teeter is that you can hit all those muscles while remaining comfortably seated and well-supported, meaning you’re unlikely to injure yourself.

Pros and Cons

Undoubtedly, the biggest benefit, in my opinion, is the seven levels of resistance. Most of us that work out have vastly different resistance needs from each other, and the Teeter Power10 does an excellent job at meeting users’ needs.

But the adjustable handlebars and seat are also a tremendous advantage, especially when compared to other rowers that “lock” you into an uncomfortable seated position. Because the handles are adjustable, you can target the pushing and pulling muscles such as your biceps and triceps.

The seat offers a tremendous amount of support and is ideal for newcomers who need the extra postural stability that the seat provides. Because the rower is relatively high off the ground compared to traditional rowers, it’s very straightforward to get on and off, making it perfect for older adults.

The one big negative is the lack of an extended warranty, which should be offered, especially since the rower is over $1,000. The only other downside is that the Teeter Power10 is quite big, so it takes up a lot of floor space; make sure you factor that in before buying.

What We Liked

  • Very quiet and super smooth
  • 7 resistance levels with Shimano Interface
  • Ergonomically designed seats
  • Fully adjustable handles
  • Folds away easily
  • Free fitness app
  • Solid and durable rower

Things To Consider

  • Two-year warranty is quite poor from such a reputable brand
  • Big and bulky and takes up space
  • Not great for hardcore rowing enthusiasts

When it comes to the Hydrow brand, there’s no doubt it has become an industry leader in designing and manufacturing the best indoor rowers on the planet. Priced at the higher end of the spectrum, the Hydrow targets users who have rowing and working out in their blood.

It’s hard to say what I like most about the Hydrow because it has so many great features. The app is easily the best fitness app I’ve come across. I have been a professional coach for 20 years and can tell when training sessions have been well planned and delivered.

screen hydrow
Hydrow Monitor

Pros and Cons

The touch screen is easy-to-use and offers users important workout data and metrics like calories burned, the time elapsed, distance traveled, and cadence and power. The training experience is simply outstanding and reminds me a lot of Zwift. The workouts are realistic, and you feel like you’re rowing out on the water.

Some users have said that the $38 per month for the app is expensive, and I tend to agree, but that said, the workouts are so good I think you need to have the app. What’s the point of spending over $2,000 on a Hydrow rower if you’re not prepared to take full advantage of the awesome training programs that are on-demand?

What We Liked

  • The 5-year warranty is an industry leader
  • Enormous 22 inch one-touch screen
  • The maximum user weight is 375 lbs making it ideal for pretty much anyone
  • Super smooth and quiet rowing experience
  • Tracking workout data is simple yet provides great detail
  • Connect to your Bluetooth speaker and listen to your favorite music as you row

Things To Consider

  • Priced at $2,495.00 the Hydrow is not the cheapest rower on the market and probably out of the range for many
  • The Hydrow is relatively large and takes up considerable floor space

Teeter Power10 vs Hydrow Rower Detailed Comparison

Build Quality and Durability

Many indoor rowers like the Concept2 still use an outdated chain mechanism as the resistance, but that’s not the case with the Teeter Power10 (You can read our Concept2 vs. Power10 Comparison for more information). It uses a state-of-the-art magnetic resistance system which makes the rowing stroke quiet and smooth, helping to reduce injury.

You only have to look at customer reviews to see that most verified customers have raved about how durable the Teeter Power10 is even when using it daily.

The Hydrow comes standard with a 120-volt outlet, 60Hz, max power of 210W, and a power idle of 5W. The build quality is outstanding and uses materials like aluminum and high-grade steel with a flat anthracite polymer body.

Hydrow also utilizes a high-quality polyester webbing which provides super silky and quiet function when working out at high intensity. Verified customer reviews back up this claim, with the vast majority of users commenting on the durability of the Hydrow rower.

Metrics and Workout Data

Tracking your data and rowing metrics with the Teeter Power10 is simple and easy; there is nothing flashy or extravagant, just good solid data that helps improve your athletic performance. The screen is relatively small, but it does the job ok and shows time, calories, distance, and your heart rate if you have the Polar Telemetry Heart Rate Transmitter.

Similar to the Teeter Power10, the Hydrow Rower lets you track all your critical training data, with the only real difference being that it’s much more high-tech. The one-touch LCD screen lets you easily track how many calories you’ve burned, how far you have rowed, the cadence of your stroke, and your heart rate.

Comfort and Style

Do you look for comfort and style when purchasing an indoor rowing machine? Well, guess what? The Teeter Power10 could be the rower for you. Not only is the Teeter stylish, but it’s also practical, functional, and, most importantly, fun to use.

The grips are arguably the most essential piece of the rower because they allow you to push and pull and work out at intensity. The Teeter Power10 has rubberized grips giving users confidence and safety when rowing, and the padded seat will enable you to work out for longer.

If it’s the style and glamour that you’re after, then you will not beat the Hydrow rower. The rower is sleek and stylish and looks like something out of a futuristic sci-fi movie, but the great thing is that it works as good as it looks.

The seat is padded, and the rollers glide smoothly, so the machine is not only quiet but also very efficient, meaning you get an awesome workout without having to worry about serious injury.

Technology

The Teeter Power10 does come with a free app that is choc-full of a variety of workouts for all fitness levels. Granted, the app is nowhere near as good as the Hydrow app, but still, it’s free, and beginners will find plenty of challenging workouts for many sessions.

Teeter has done an excellent job making the workouts clear and easy-to-follow which, as a professional coach, I can tell you is the sign of any good training. If you’re on a limited budget and can’t afford the $38 monthly fee for the Hydrow app, then you can’t go wrong with the free TeeterMove app.

The Hydrow app is well-known in the industry as the best indoor rowing app.

Here’s why:

  • You get LIVE workouts
  • More than 3000 ON-DEMAND workouts
  • Unguided adventures through picturesque waterways
  • The app also comes complete with strength and conditioning programs, yoga, and even access to pilates
  • A variety of different rowing programs range from 250 meters to 10km.

For $456.00 annually, you can access a 12-month membership, giving you complete control over your training program and schedule. Each membership also allows unlimited profiles meaning every family member can enjoy the Hydrow for the price of just one membership.

Warranty

The only area that the Teeter brand disappoints me is the lack of a good warranty. In my opinion, a two-year warranty is not good enough for a reputable brand like Teeter, especially when they’re asking customers to spend over $1,000. Yes, Teeter does offer the “Power10 Extended Warranty,” but I don’t see why customers should have to pay extra.

As you can see, Hydrow offers a much more extensive warranty when it comes to the frame and components. If I was choosing between the Teeter Power10 and the Hydrow Rower, this might be the deal winner for the Hydrow.

  • Five-year warranty on the frame & upright storage kit
  • Twelve-month warranty on components, screen and also including electronics

What Are The Customers Saying?

When you’re about to spend large amounts of money on an indoor rower like the Teeter Power10 or the Hydrow Rower, it’s a good idea to look at what the verified customers say about their experiences with both machines.

I have looked through extensive research and reviews on both rowers and chose three customer reviews for the Teeter Power10 and the Hydrow. Reviews like these can help you make an informed decision before you burn a big fat hole in your wallet.

Teeter Power10 Rower Customer Reviews

CNKPerry from West Michigan was very impressed with her Teeter Poer10 rower saying, “I was looking to replace an aging elliptical machine. My wife and I had been searching online for a few weeks to review options when she stumbled on the Teeter Power 10. After reading the reviews and watching the video. I got excited about having a new piece of exercise equipment.”

Ryan from California was also more than happy with the Teeter Power10 rower and said, “If you’re on the fence about the Power10, I recommend you go for it. Teeter stands by their product; I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. You will work hard and see results, and you don’t even need to commit more than 20 minutes a day to do good for your body. Thanks for reading, and good luck with your choice.”

Last but not least, CADoug, a verified customer, commented, “Works well, but needs more adjustments for short people, and a better seat. Due to how much the seat moves up and down, it takes a bit to get it moving. If you are under 5’9″, get a traditional rower.”

Hydrow Rower Customer Reviews

Steve, a verified customer, had this to say about the Hydrow Rower,

“I purchased my Hydrow used from an individual two months ago. It seems to be a very well-made unit. I have used it daily since I bought it. I noticed that two of the rollers on the seat had cracks in them. I contacted customer service fully expecting to buy the replacement rollers.

They responded almost immediately, letting me know they would replace the parts for free. Exceptional customer service from Monique at Hydrow member services.”

Todd from the USA said, “The customer service at Hydrow is garbage. My Hydrow is leaking oil which they acknowledge is a problem with these things, but they won’t get anyone over here to fix it. It is under warranty, and this is week 4 of me waiting.”

And finally, Simon from Great Britain kept his review short, saying, “Amazing machine, if you’re considering buying one…just buy it.”

How To Decide Which Rower Is For Me?

Well, here we are again; it’s time to help you decide which rower is best for you and your needs. Some exercise machines are very easy to recommend to customers, while others can be a bit tricky, but one thing is always the same, and that is you need to consider these important factors:

  • What is your budget?
  • How much space do you have?
  • What are your current fitness levels and goals?
  • How intense do you train? and
  • How often do you train?

If you can answer these five questions, you’ll have a much better understanding of which rower is better for you.

If you’re a person who struggles with mobility or is recovering from an injury and undergoing rehabilitation, then the Teeter Power10 would be your best option. Not only is it easy to get in and out off, but the fully adjustable handles make it easy for any size person to use.

The Teeter Power10 rower also has 7 levels of resistance via a Shimano resistance dial and is super easy to use, even for beginner fitness enthusiasts. Simply turn the dial up to work on strength and conditioning, or turn the dial down to target your aerobic system.

The Hydrow Rower is much better suited and quite frankly targeted towards highly experienced athletes and fitness buffs. The price tag of over $2,000 is nothing to sneeze at, but that said, you do get all the bells and whistles.

The Hydrow App, in my expert opinion, is the best on the market. It’s that simple. The training sessions are fun and engaging and have been designed by world-class coaches. Whether you’re an elite athlete or a beginner, there are classes for everyone, regardless of your fitness level.

Simply put, if you’ve got the budget for it and are confident you will be working out frequently, then the Hydrow is the rower for you. If you’re on a tighter budget, the Teeter Power10 is a good option, plus it’s excellent for beginners and those with mobility issues.

Verdict

I can honestly say my personal choice here is the Hydrow Rower; it’s just simply one of the best rowers on the market, and the reviews are nothing but fantastic. You get state-of-the-art technology and design features, plus you get access to easily the best fitness rowing app out there.

That’s not to say the Teeter Power10 rower isn’t a great rower because it most certainly is. If you’re an older person, struggling with mobility, or just getting started on your fitness journey, the Teeter Power10 is an excellent entry-level rower that combines practicality with comfort.

I would say that if you’re looking for a complete body workout, you’re better off choosing the Teeter as the adjustable handles let you target a variety of different muscles, and the machine is easy to get on and off. Alternatively, the Hydrow is targeted toward advanced athletes.
