Review

The MYX II Fitness smart bike is a newcomer to the scene and has garnered some very positive reviews online. First, the bike‘s overall cost is considerably lower compared to other top brands in the industry and what’s more impressive is the bike is loaded with cool features.

Many bikes have features that look and sound great, but in reality, they don’t do much; The MYX 2 is just the opposite. Features such as the 360 degrees swiveling touchscreen and the fully adjustable seat are just two such features. Other well-thought-out features like the ergonomic handlebars and the dual-purpose pedals really do make the MYX II a joy to ride.

Tip: You can find a super detailed, hands-on beachbody bike review from our Spin Instructor, Katie.

The App has a ton of workouts that will challenge athletes of all fitness levels, and the quality of the training programs is second to none.

Things I liked:

  • Beachbody’s platform integration with this bike allows purchasers the ability to have all that Beachbody has at their fingertips
  • The ability to track metrics such as heart rate
  • Built-in Camera: Many other platforms are beginning to offer live classes, but the ability to participate in real-time and be seen by the instructor is genius.
  • Dual-purpose pedals allow for sneakers or cycling shoes.
  • Upfront, the price is relatively lower compared to competitors.
  • The rotating touchscreen is an excellent feature while working out.

Things To Consider:

  • For riders to experience all that Beachbody has to offer, a monthly BODI membership of $19.95 per month in addition to the yearly $99 Beachbody on Demand (BOD) membership is needed. Additionally, if riders would like access to Openfit, it is an additional $29 per month.
  • The friction is much louder than other systems like digital or magnetic.

Review:

NordicTrack has been around for decades now and, over that time, has developed into one of the most reputable companies, not just in smart trainers but fitness equipment in general.

The bike itself offers all the fantastic features you’d expect from a company of this calibre; features such as the impressive touchscreen, which can fully rotate, making it perfect for when you’re off the bike and performing one of the specially designed yoga or meditation sessions.

Data tracking is second to none and allows you to track metrics like heart rate, distance, calories burned, duration, cadence, and speed.

One of the best features is that the 24 levels of difficulty are easily adjustable using the digital system in place; this feature shouldn’t be overlooked as changing gear or difficulty levels on many smart bikes can be a nightmare. Now, although the bike doesn’t come with dual-purpose pedals, it does come equipped with toe cages so you can push hard with confidence.

The Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity are top-notch, and the NordicTrack S22i also comes with built-in speakers, which are an excellent addition, particularly on longer rides or workouts.

The live classes are an excellent feature for those who like their training sessions to be upbeat and high tempo. The live classes also have a real social and friendly feel about them, making staying motivated and reaching your goals much easier.

Things I liked:

  • 24 levels of resistance controlled digitally is easy to adjust while riding
  • It comes equipped with Wi-Fi, built-in speakers, and Bluetooth
  • An excellent feature is the decline/incline movement range
  • Several different payment options
  • State of the art touchscreen is excellent
  • Access to live classes via the iFit app

Things To Consider:

  • Not equipped with dual-purpose pedals
  • Quite expensive, but that being said, you get what you pay for
  • Some users have reported buffering problems while using the touchscreen

How Do MYX Fitness & NordicTrack Compare?

Price

Ok, we need to talk about price; When it comes to purchasing a smart bike, you want to make sure you’re getting the best possible deal you can for the budget you have. But there’s more than just the upfront purchase price to consider.

When comparing the MYX Fitness and the NordicTrack S22i, you need to factor in things like shipping, monthly app fees, and more.

The MYX Fitness purchase price comes in at $1,399,00, and you’ll pay an extra $200 for the MYX Plus 2 at $1,599,00.

The NordicTrack S22i is currently selling for $1,499,00: Side note: these prices were advertised by both companies while writing this review.

The MYX Fitness app will set you back $29 per month instead of its competitor, the NordicTrack S22i, which costs $39 per month.

There’s also the issue of cycling shoes which many advanced riders can’t go without; you will have to purchase separately if you look to buy the NordicTrack S22i

Accessories

Many smart bikes come fully equipped with all the bells and whistles, but that always depends on how much you’re willing to pay and let’s face it, smart bikes aren’t cheap and can cost between 1 and 3 thousand dollars.

The MYX Fitness and specifically the MYX Fitness 2 Plus are fully loaded with a whole bunch of fabulous accessories. The MYX Fitness Plus comes with a heart rate monitor, foam roller, weights, an exercise mat, and even a balancing mat; now, that’s tough to beat.

When purchasing the NordicTrack S22i, a set of 3lb or 1.5kgs dumbbells are included, but that’s about it. However, you need to consider that the NordicTrack S22i is a top-of-the-range bike with many features already included in the original purchase price.

Tech

Both the MYX fitness and the NordicTrack S22i come with state-of-the-art LCD one-touch screens, both measuring at around about 22″ in 56cm.

Wi-fi and Bluetooth are available on both bikes, with built-in speakers also being offered; there’s nothing better than working out and getting up a sweat with your favorite tunes playing in the background.

Workouts And Classes

One of the primary reasons or factors when purchasing a smart bike is the quality of the App. The MYX fitness and the iFit App are excellent apps that offer the user many different features and functions.

Both of the apps offer the live leaderboard feature, which is a fantastic way to track your progress and stay motivated throughout your workouts. The number of quality workouts on both apps is simply outstanding, and there are great workouts and training programs designed to cater to all fitness levels.

The apps do a great job at coaching the rider through the workouts, and with the added bonus of live sessions, getting in the best shape of your life while having fun has never been easier.

MYX Fitness has recently collaborated with Openfit & Beachbody and is now also offering live sessions; however, you will need to sign up to Openfit for a cost of $29 per month. If you’re going to be using your smart bike regularly I’d probably opt for the live sessions as they make your workout much more enjoyable.

Build Quality And Specs

The NordicTrack S22i and the MYX Fitness are similar in overall weight, specs, and dimensions, with the NordicTrack measuring 63″ x 22″ x 60″ or 160cm x 56cm x 152cm, while its opponent, the MYX Fitness measures 54” x 21” x 47” or 137cm x 53cm x 119cm.

Both bikes have the same maximum weight capacity at 350lbs or 159kgs, and both are manufactured using the latest ergonomic designs, utilizing the highest quality materials.

The bikes don’t take up a lot of room and are perfect for home or gym offices.

MYX 2 / MYX 2 Plus & NordicTrack S22i vs. Peloton

When comparing the NordictTrackS22i and the MYX Fitness to the Peloton, several factors need to be considered.

There’s no doubt that the Peloton is the industry leader in fitness and conditioning bikes in most people’s minds. Peloton has led the way in terms of build quality, design, software, App quality, and customer service; they’ve really taken the game to another level.

But this lifted the bar for other companies who had to keep up with Peloton or be left behind. The NordicTrack S22i and the MYX Fitness are both such bikes that have adapted and spent millions of dollars on research and development to keep up.

Again as with any selection of smart bikes, the price factor comes into play, and depending on how much you’re willing to spend will depend on which one of these three bikes is right for you. So take your time and choose carefully, but again, any of these three bikes is a winner.

Which Bike Is For Me?

When selecting any piece of fitness equipment, whether it be a squat rack, bench press, or, in this case, a smart bike, several different factors need to be taken into consideration when choosing which bike is right for you,

The size of the room you have, how much you are willing to spend, your goals, your current fitness level, and how often you play on riding the bike all come into consideration when choosing the right bike

That’s why it’s always tricky to give an answer on which bike is best for you. Very rarely can you give a definitive answer unless one bike is just far more superior than its counterpart? However, in this case, both bikes are exceptionally well made, priced similarly, and both have the excellent build quality and app features you’d expect from world-renowned brands.

So take your time, do your research and carefully assess all the factors before burning a big fat hole in your wallet.
